LAST YEAR RISES ROUBLE 10% VS. U.S. DOLLAR, SAYS CENTRAL BANK

MOSCOW, FEBRUARY 6, 2004. (RIA NOVOSTI) - The real rouble/US dollar rate came 9.8 per cent up throughout last year, with an impressive 16 per cent for October into December. The nominal rate-i.e., with no account for inflation/reflation in Russia and the USA-came 3.8 per cent up, and 6.8 per cent for the fourth quarter-year.

The US dollar purchasing ability in Russia slid 10.4 per cent down, with 15.5 per cent for the last quarter-year, as against the year's start.

The rate was R29.45/$1, as of December 31, the year's average nominal R30.68/$1, reports the Central Bank of Russia.
