MOSCOW, January 4 (RIA Novosti) - In January 2004, the least value of the index of consumer prices for the first month of the year was registered since 1999 - 101.8%, says a Russian State Statistics Committee (Goskomstat) report.
One of the factors that influenced the value of the consumer prices index is the abolition of the sales tax (5%), which most of all told on the dynamics of prices for nonfood goods and tariffs on some services.
The index of consumer prices for goods totaled, in January 2004 against December 2003, 101.2% (foodstuffs, 101.6%, nonfoods, 100.5%), for services to population - 104.1%.
