SAFIN RANKS 2ND IN MEN'S TENNIS

PARIS, February 2, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent) - Marat Safin of Russia is now ranked second in the Association of Tennis Professionals' rating because of his appearance in the Australian Open finals. Safin has 140 points and the winner of the Australian Open, Roger Federer has 200 points.

Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain, who is in 3rd place, is trailing behind Safin by 49 points. Legendary American player Andre Agassi (90 points) is ranked 4th and Dominique Hrbaty of Slovakia (85 points) is ranked 5th.

Three other Russians are among the world's 100 best men tennis players. Igor Andreyev (9 points) is 68th, Nikolai Davydenko (8 points) is 75th, and Mikhail Yuzhny (7 points) is 81st.
