RUSSIA AND INDIA ARE PLANNING TO EXPAND COOPERATION IN SPACE

MOSCOW, January 29 (RIA Novosti) - The Rosaviakosmos (Russian Aviation and Space Agency) plans to sign an agreement with India on the joint use of the Russian GLONASS satellite navigation system. The head of the Rosaviakosmos, Yuri Koptev, spoke about it at a news conference in Moscow on Thursday. According to him, this agreement can be signed already in the next three months.

Yuri Koptev specified that at the present time Russia had started testing the GLONASS-K navigation satellite system of a new generation with the term of active functioning in orbit for ten years.

He said that this would be a space vehicle, built on a new platform in principle with improved frequencies and energy characteristics.
