The organizers of the forum awarded Valery Gergiyev with the "Crystal Prize" before the performance.
"It is very flattering for me to be awarded with the prize. I believe that the performance of the Mariinsky Theater in Davos is to some degree is a natural fact, because it is the result of the artistic troupe development," Gergiyev said after the performance.
The Mariinsky Theater Orchestra performed the music by Tchaikovsky for the ballet "The Nutcracker".
"Russian culture is one of the top Russian problems. One can of course mention the problems concerning the economy, gas and oil. However, one should remember that the problem concerning the culture can be the most topical," he said.
The Russian Vneshtorgbank was the sponsor of the main cultural event of the Davos forum.
"The Mariinsky Theater belongs not to St Petersburg, not to Russia, but to the whole world. Mr. Gergiyev is a global cultural leader," Vneshtorgbank President Andrei Kostikov noted.
