STRASBOURG, January 25 (RIA Novosti) - Russia is interested in wider representation in the Council of Europe staff, Mikhail Margelov, Federation Council International Affairs Committee chairman, PACE deputy chairman said on the eve of the winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
"We will actively participate in the elections of the Council of Europe Secretary General," Margelov said. In his opinion, "Russia with its 18 votes plays a serious role in the Council of Europe." Besides, Margelov said Russia will run for the Speaker of the Council of Europe. Speaking about the PACE winter session opening on January 26 in Strasbourg, Margelov said "we will play an active part" in that session.
Besides, in the framework of the winter session, the candidature of Mikhail Margelov as Council of Europe Vice Speaker will be confirmed.
