"If we talk about the wars of the future, we should start training staff specialists of the future. We should revive the Russian traditional military elite - General Staff officers," the minister said.
According to him, these officers need special professional training and should master all contemporary military and technical achievements.
"Staff activities imply special approaches, specific knowledge of new military and management technologies. The valuable commanding experience cannot replace staff culture," Sergei Ivanov said.
In his words, a highly professional and effective officers' school was created in the pre-revolutionary and Soviet period, however, much has been lost in the recent years.
"As a whole, the situation is very serious," the Russian Defense Minister stressed.
