DAVOS (Switzerland), January 22, 2004. (RIA Novosti correspondent Yekaterina Andrianova) - Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili hopes for the new positive twist in the Russo-Georgian relations.

"As a new Georgian President I will pay my first foreign visit to Russia. My visit to Moscow means the beginning of the new relations with Russia. I'm ready for major breakthroughs, but still, small steps in this direction will do fine in order to restore mutual trust," the Georgian President disclosed in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Saakashvili is taking part in the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

According to Saakashivili, the date of the visit is still a matter of discussion. He believes that his visit will take place in February.

On Thursday morning Saakashivili met in Davos with Russian President's Aide on Economic Issues Andrey Illarionov in order to discuss perspectives of economic cooperation between Russia and Georgia.

"Issues that are of particular interest for the new Georgian authorities and for Russia were discussed in the course of the meeting. We spoke about the way how to make relations between our countries deeper and intensively developing, how to restore the good level of our national relations, which existed between our countries for many decades," Illarionov said.
