BAKU, January 22 (RIA Novosti correspondent Gerai Dadashev) - On Thursday, Baku hosted the opening of a two-day customs conference devoted to fight against drug trafficking in the countries of the so-called Great Silk Way (the trade way from Asia to Europe that existed in ancient times and in the Middle Age).
"We expect much from the event and we are positive that it will yield concrete results in fight against drug trafficking," Michel Danet, Secretary General of the World Customs Organization said at the opening ceremony.
The EU is ready to allocate to concrete countries enough financial aid to organize efficient fight against the drug threat, he said.
The conference is attended by representatives of customs services from Russia, the USA, Great Britain, France, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Turkey, Italy, Bulgaria, Poland, as well as from the World Customs Union, the European Commission, and the UN Drug Control Department.
The participants are expected to adopt a declaration after the conference.
