RUSSIAN MILITARY IN TAJIKISTAN HOLDING ANTI-TERRORIST EXERCISE

DUSHANBE, January 20 (RIA Novosti) - A command-staff exercise in the struggle against international terrorism is being held in the Russian 201st motorized rifle division under its commander Major General Yuri Perminov.

As RIA Novosti was told in the division's press service, the exercise is being held on a military training ground 25 km south of Dushanbe, and an operational group of representatives of Tajikistan's power units is also taking part in it.

The exercise will be held in three stages and end on January 23. Artillery, tanks, anti-aircraft missile systems, aircraft of the frontline aviation, and combat helicopters are being used in it.

"The purpose of the exercise is to improve combat coordination and field training of servicemen for actions in the course of an anti-terrorist operation, and also to enhance the readiness of the military control bodies in the struggle against international terrorism," the press service officials noted.

A field firing exercise and polishing up of blocking and destruction of terrorists by Russian military in interaction with the units of Tajikistan's power structures are planned to be held in the course of the final stage, on January 23.
