MOSCOW, JANUARY 18 (RIA NOVOSTI) - Diplomacy is the only way for Georgia to solve controversies surrounding its breakaway republic of Abkhazia, Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili pointed out Sunday in an interview for the Russian television network NTV.
"Our main problem is Abkhazia. I can see no problems with South Ossetia [another self-proclaimed republic inside Georgia] as 60 percent of its territory remains administered by the central government," he said.
As Saakashvili acknowledged, Abkhazia is such a deep problem that the mass of controversies around it does not seem possible to disentangle with military force; peace negotiations are the only realistic way to achieve that.
