KAMAZ WINS 14th STAGE OF 2004 TELEFONICA DAKAR RALLY

TYUMEN, January 16 (RIA NOVOSTI CORRESPONDENT ALEXANDER PERESTORONIN) - The Russian KamAZ-Master truck team won the 14th stage of the 2004 Telefonica Dakar rally.

Firdaus Kabirov's KamAZ covered 551 km in 8 hours 57 minutes 36 seconds. Dutchman De Rooy (DAF) came second 1.11 down. The KamAZ crew of Vladimir Chagin took third place 31.44 off the pace. Nineteen trucks started in the race.

Vladimir Chagin remains the overall leader with a total time of 55:52.29. The next stage will be 651 km long.

The 26th Dakar race started in France on January 1. The rally entrants will cover over 11,000 km across Spain, Morocco, Mauritania, Mali, Burkina-Faso and Senegal to finish on the bank of famous Pink Lake on the outskirts of Dakar on January 18.

As many as 563 entrants from 38 countries are participating in the rally.
