MOSCOW, January 16 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian government hopes for efficient cooperation with the new State Duma in 2004.

"We hope for full interaction with the State Duma, for constructive exchange of opinions and at the same time we call for increasing the responsibility of the legislative and executive powers for formation of a new legislation basis," Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov said, when speaking at the State Duma on Friday.

"We are not trying to create a secretive atmosphere in our cooperation, all grounded proposals of deputies will be discussed publicly, all specifically-oriented deputies will receive an opportunity to work with the government," he pointed out.

Kasyanov urged deputies to pay special attention to prospective bills that had a long-term basis. "Not all laws bring immediate results, so our task is to look in the future and to assess bills' long-term efficiency," he said.
