GROZNY, January 15. (RIA Novosti). An explosive device which was planted at one of the crossroads in Grozny, capital of the Chechen republic, has been defused. The bomb was camouflaged by a heap of street rubbish, spokesman for the North-Caucasian department of the Russian Federation's Interior Ministry told RIA Novosti on Thursday.

The police say that it has been established that the terrorist act was being prepared on the instruction of Yunadi Turchayev, one of the ringleaders of the militants. The self-made bomb was planted in the Oktyabrsky district of Grozny by two members of Turchayev's bandit group who were detained by the police a few days ago for other reasons. It was them who told the police about the preparation of the terrorist act.
