PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, January 12, 2004. (RIA NOVOSTI CORRESPONDENT OKSANA GUSEVA) - An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4 occurred in the Komandorskie Islands area, RIA Novosti was told in the Kamchatka seismological party.
It occurred at 7.31 a.m., local time in the Pacific, 30 kilometres north-west of the northern edge of Bering Island.
The epicentre of the earthquake was at a depth of 23 kilometres under the seabed at a distance of 550 kilometres from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
