GROZNY, JANUARY 9, RIA NOVOSTI - A disastrous landslide swept Zandak, a village in the Nozhai Yurt district, Chechnya. A state of emergency was introduced in the locality, and an emergency HQ established.

The calamity left more than fifty houses in ruins, destroyed a gas mainline along two kilometres and a highway on a 150 metre stretch. Several electric transmission pylons were upset. Ten homeless families are putting up at the village school, and 250 villagers have left the place to seek refuge in kinsmen's homes. More than three hundred houses are in close vicinity to the disaster site, reports the republican presidential press service.
