ASTANA, January 9. (RIA Novosti). In the coming year Kazakhstan could invest up to one billion dollars into Russian economy. Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Kasymzhomat Tokayev said in an interview to the Russian mass media in connection with the opening of the Year of Kazakhstan in Russia.

"Our banking-financial sector has, in fact, begun investing into the Russian market", he said.

"As for Russia, it can invest twelve times more (i.e. 12 billion dollars) proceeding from the size of its economy," Tokayev said.

According to him, "the Russians are ready and would like to invest their monies into the economy of Kazakhstan, and this is profitable both economically and politically.

"It is easy to guess that if Russia flourishes this will be also beneficial to Kazakhstan," he said.

"We are paying heed to the fact that the rating agencies give a good assessment of prospects for Russia's economic development. The highly reputable investment agency Goldman Sachs considers that in 2040 Russia will be among the top five states as far as GDP is concerned, Tokayev noted. By developing cooperation with Russia Kazakhstan is on the right path, the minister is sure.
