PRESIDENT OF IRAN THANKS ALL COUNTRIES FOR AIDING BAM QUAKE VICTIMS

TEHERAN, JANUARY 7, 2004, /RIA-NOVOSTI CORRESPONDENT NIKOLAI TEREKHOV/ -- President Mohammad Khatami of Iran sent messages to 90 foreign heads of state, thanking them for aiding Bam quake victims.

Iran continues to get humanitarian relief aid from various countries, Russia included, day after day. About 80 countries of the world reacted promptly to the recent tragedy, which befell Iran. The latest body count is 35,000 dead; another 14,500 were injured, after an earthquake hit Iran's ancient Bam city December 26.

An aircraft serving with Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry delivered humanitarian relief aid to Teheran January 6. Talking to RIA-NOVOSTI, Mohammad Hasan Habibi, spokesman for Iran's Red Crescent Organization, noted that Russian medications, tents and heaters will be delivered to Bam as soon as possible.
