IRAN TO RECEIVE HUMANITARIAN AID FROM RUSSIA

MOSCOW, January 5th, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent) - A transport aircraft Il-96 of the Russian Emergencies Ministry will deliver humanitarian aid for the people of Bam hit by an earthquake.

"On the government instructions, the aircraft will bring 14.5 tons of medicines, large tents and 72 heaters to the Iranian city of Shiraz for Bam residents," the Emergencies Ministry spokesmen told RIA Novosti.

The aircraft will take off on Tuesday morning.

According to the spokesmen, the first Russian aircraft had already delivered 20 tons of humanitarian aid to Iran on December 31. The victims of the earthquake will be provided with tents, blankets, warm clothes, generators and water filters.

Russia is going to increase humanitarian aid to Iran. Possibly, part of the aid will be brought to that country by land, said the press service.

The powerful earthquake in Iran killed over 30,000 people on December 26th.
