TBILISI, January 5th, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent) - The turnout at the January 4 presidential elections in Georgia made 83%.

Chairman of the Georgian Election Commission Zurab Chiaberashvili said at a press conference in Tbilisi that there were 2,129,824 electors in Georgia.

On December 15-January 3, 2004, as many as 1,738,000 people got preliminarily registered. On the day of the elections, about 391,000 voters were registered as well. Roughly 1,760,000 people participated in the polls.

The commission has no official information about the voting results yet.

However, according to the commission, the relevant information will be made public as soon as it receives protocols from polling stations.

Voters were highly active at the early presidential elections in Georgia, stressed Chiaberashvili. In his interview with the Novosti Georgia agency, he noted that some insignificant wrongdoings had been registered but they would not affect the outcome of the elections.
