WASHINGTON, April 7 (RIA Novosti) - The presentation of the Russia Profile magazine, a public and political edition in the English language, took part at the Washington headquarters of the Carnegie Fund. The magazine's public council was elected.

The presentation was organized by the magazine's partner, the Defense Information Center, and the Russian Information Agency Novosti, the magazine's cofounder.

Supervisor of Russian and Asian programs of the Research Center, political analyst Nikolai Zlobin elected member of the magazine's public council said in a RIA Novosti interview that the Russia Profile project will help U.S. experts better understand the Russian position on the disputable Moscow-Washington issues.

In the opinion of the U.S. administration, even contradictions on such issues as the Yukos case, the elections in Ukraine and Moldova and the situation in Kyrgyzstan did not have negative impact on Russian-U.S. relations, Zlobin said.

Russia should uphold its position via interested dialogue and information exchange with the Unites States, he noted.

Americans were highly interested in the magazine.

"The first impression proves that the presentation of the magazine aroused high interests in the States," chairman of the State Duma international affairs committee, member of the magazine's trustee council Konstantin Kosachev told RIA Novosti on the phone.

According to him, the new magazine which had no analogues in the past is meant for a wide circle of foreign readers. The edition contains analytical materials on the political and economic developments in Russia.

The public council comprises Russian and U.S. politicians and public figures, including former Russian finance minister, State Duma deputy Mikhail Zadornov, chairman of the State Duma international affairs committee Konstantin Kosachev, senior analyst at the U.S. Entrepreneurship Institute Leon Aron, RIA Novosti general director Svetlana Mironyuk and head of the Independent Media publishing house Dirk Sauer, Russia Profile editor-in-chief Andrei Zolotov told RIA Novosti.

In his words, the public council is a guarantor of the edition's independence as its task is the annual approval of the editor's authority.

"We want to make our magazine a public media which Russia issues for the influential audience," Zolotov stressed.

The Russian Profile magazine is published by Independent Media in 6,000 copies.
