UKRAINE ATTACHES EXCLUSIVE IMPORTANCE TO PRESIDENT YUSCHENKO'S VISIT TO U.S.

KIEV, April 1 (RIA Novosti) - The official visit by Ukrainian President Victor Yuschenko to the United States on April 3 through 7 will be exceptionally important, the governmental press service quotes Ukrainian State Secretary Alexander Zinchenko as telling journalists in Kiev on Friday, the Novosti-Ukraine news service reports.

Zinchenko said that the visit program has over ten questions of "significant state importance".

In the opinion of Zinchenko, the customary matters on the agenda of bilateral relations - reversal of the Jackson-Vanick amendment, assistance to Ukraine's entry in the World Trade Organization and gaining the market-economy status - have been "so thoroughly worked on by all the expert groups" that "there is absolute agreement with the American side and we are meeting all-round support".

Asked by journalists, Zinchenko also said that a meeting between Yuschenko and former security officer Nikolai Melnichenko of the ex-Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma in not yet in the plans. "I think that the people investigating the case of assassination of journalist Georgi Gongadze should get in contact", Zinchenko noted. In his opinion, "for the contact to be efficient the services involved in this investigation, Prosecutor General's Office, should act".

Zinchenko also said that the program of visit of the Ukrainian president so far lacks the discussion with Washington of the payment by the American side of compensations regarding the death of Ukrainian reporter Taras Protsyuk in Iraq.

The Ukrainian state secretary noted that on April 6 the Ukrainian president will speak in American Congress before the two chambers of the American supreme legislature.
