"Enterprises making up the UES do everything possible to ensure uninterrupted power service to the people of Georgia", he says.
"Without serious retooling, heavily investing above all in the building of new power transmission lines linking Georgia and energy systems in adjacent countries, rehabilitating the Inguri hydraulic electricity station no stability of the Georgian energy system can be reached", the statement reads.
The UES is ready to participate in such projects, it stresses.
The statement also flatly rejects "any attempts at taking advantage of the problems existing in the energy supply to Georgian consumers in a bid to produce an atmosphere of mutual distrust between the peoples of Russia and Georgia".
Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili has said recently that Georgia will have no electricity until its energy sector depends solely on Russia. "Now Georgia hangs on only one power transmission line, extending from Russia. As long as we rely on only this line, we will have no power", the Georgian president told a press conference.
The Trapeznikov statement notes that full-fledged rehabilitation of electricity supply from Russia to Georgia along the Kavkasioni line will be done within a maximally short time.
In March 2005 avalanches damaged several supporting structures of the Kavkasioni line, which passes electricity from Russia to Georgia. Russian electricity supply to Georgia was suspended, which has led to power shortages.
In these conditions, the interstate power transmission line Alaverdi is operating at its utmost. The company INTER RAO UES is supplying 160 megawatts from Armenia to Georgia. The Salkhino line, passing from Russia to Georgia via Abkhazia, is also in service.
