STRASBOURG, March 21 (RIA Novosti's Christina Rodriguez) - European parliamentarians think useful the round table on Chechnya, which has begun in Strasbourg.

A PACE reportee on Chechnya Rudolf Bindig has told RIA Novosti that they discussed much at the round table, also human rights violations. The German parliamentarian thinks such exchange of opinions "useful".

Another PACE reportee, Tadeus Iwinski, overseeing refugees, told the RIA Novosti correspondent that it is the first round table of its kind.

Iwinski believes that such meetings can be held, besides in Strasbourg and Moscow, also in Grozny. He hopes that one of the results of the round table will be quality holding of the parliamentary elections in Chechnya.

Ex-PACE reportee on Chechnya Lord Judd has called the round table an instance of a good dialog.

"A good dialog is being held here", he told RIA Novosti.

At the same time, Lord Judd voiced regret that "not everybody has come to Strasbourg", meaning the absence of representatives of the so-called "Chechen separatists".

Russian human rights advocates also see, in general, useful the holding of the round table on Chechnya in Strasbourg.

"We've had a constructive conversation on matters of political settlement and human rights", Russian ombudsman Vladimir Lukin told RIA Novosti on Monday.

He said that at the behind-the-doors sitting different points of view, including extreme, have sounded "For instance, one British parliamentarian said that Moscow is to blame for what is going on in Chechnya", Lukin said.

At the same time, expert at International Helsinki Federation Tatyana Lokshina, chief of the human right center Demos, invited not to overestimate the role of this round table. "It is only the beginning of the process", she told RIA Novosti. In her opinion, the sides should now focus on the main thing -- observance of human rights in the Chechen republic.
