STRASBOURG, March 20 (RIA Novosti, Kristina Rodriguez) - PACE speaker on Chechen issues Andreas Gross links the Council of Europe's economic aid to Chechnya to the observance of human rights in the republic.

"The issue of economic aid to Chechnya is related to the observance of human rights there," Gross stated in an interview with RIA Novosti.

He did not discard the possibility that during the upcoming round table on Chechnya in Strasbourg the participants might discuss the issue of economic aid to Chechnya on the part of the Council of Europe. Gross was the first to propose the idea of the round table.

"During the meeting of the round table, the participants might discuss any topics related to the situation in Chechnya, including the issues of economic aid to the republic," he announced.

Gross believes "Chechnya is a very strong region in economic terms. Its major trouble is corruption." He underlined that the help provided by the Council of Europe must be directed at the elimination of corruption in the republic in the first place.
