GROZNY, March 12 (RIA Novosti) -A shooting attack against a federal helicopter has been prevented in Chechnya, Ruslan Atsayev, a spokesman for the Chechen Interior Ministry told RIA Novosti.

According to him, on Saturday, operatives of the Akhmad Kadyrov regiment responded to information obtained through special channels and spotted an Igla portable anti-aircraft system on the roof of a nine-story apartment block in Grozny.

"They also found a belt with explosives, a Russian-languages instruction manual for the Igla operation and some syringes on the site," Mr. Atsayev said.

"Our prompt response prevented shooting of a helicopter which could come across as a major terror attack," he pointed out.

Chechnya's Interior Minister Ruslan Alkhanov visited the site and assessed the incident as prevention of an attempted terrorist act.

A spokesperson for the Regional Operative Headquarters (ROH) in charge of the counter-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus told RIA Novosti that an arms cache had been detected and destroyed in Chechnya.

The cache was spotted in the course of a reconnaissance-and-search operation near the village of Simsir in the Nozhai-Yurt district of Chechnya. The cache contained a kilogram of TNT explosive, a mortar mine and four rounds for an anti-tank grenade launcher, the spokesperson said.

"The contents of the cache let us conclude that the militants had been making preparations for another terror attack, the ROH spokesperson pointed out.

On Friday, one serviceman was wounded by a land mine, a spokesman for the Chechen Interior Ministry told RIA Novosti.

"An antipersonnel mine exploded during an engineer terrain intelligence operation," he said. One federal serviceman was wounded in the incident. He is in a satisfactory condition now, the Interior Ministry spokesman said.
