MOSCOW, March 11 (RIA Novosti) - Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov approved the Russian-US project of skyscrapers' construction at the meeting with US architect Frank Williams on Friday, head of the Mosproyekt-2 state-run company Mikhail Posokhin told RIA Novosti.

According to him, some skyscrapers will be built in Sviblovo (Moscow's north). "This will be a multi-functional center consisting of several buildings. The tallest building will have 50 stories. There will be a 40-storied apartment house," Mr. Posokhin said.

In his words, the skyscrapers will be the pilot project of the International Skyscraper Building Center. This joint venture was founded by Mosproyekt-2 and Frank Williams and Partners architectural company. The project will be implemented as part of the Moscow Skyscraper Ring program.

Mikhail Posokhin gave no details about the area and appearance of the new buildings. "We shall draft the concept of the construction in three months and complete the project in six months. If everything is a success, the construction will be launched in 9-10 months," Mr. Posokhin said.

After the meeting with Yuri Luzhkov, Frank Williams said the Moscow skyscrapers would have a unique design. They will be built in harmony with Moscow architecture and have Moscow features, he stressed. The advanced experience of skyscraper construction and modern building and security technologies will be used in the project, Mr. Williams added.

The Moscow mayor thanked Mr. Williams for the attention to Moscow and intention to build skyscrapers here. "We would like to attract best architectural forces to Moscow," Mr. Luzhkov said. "I respect our architectural school but foreign experience will contribute to Moscow's architectural variety," he noted.
