GROZNY, March 10 (RIA Novosti) - Twelve died and one was injured in a MI 8 helicopter crash in Chechnya, say preliminary reports. The information reached Novosti from the North Caucasian United Armed Forces Group HQ.

Different news came from an informed functionary of the group military prosecutor's office. He said all on board were dead. The interviewee could not say just how many were in the fatal craft.

"Examination of the site is going on. It's a hard job, with the darkness now. A fire that started after the helicopter collapsed has been extinguished. More precise information about casualties and what caused the tragedy cannot come before tomorrow," he said to Novosti.

The army helicopter crashed late this afternoon on the administrative border of the Urus-Martan District and the Zavodskoi District of Grozny, Chechen capital. Presumably, the craft had caught on a high-voltage electric transmission line. Light went off throughout the Urus-Martan District the instant the helicopter collapsed, to support the conjecture. Electric supply has resumed by now.
