KIEV, March 9 (RIA Novosti's Taras Burnos) - President Victor Yuschenko and other new people on the Ukrainian top ought to go through lie detector checks, and so fill in certain gaps in the file as muckraking journalist Gongadze murder detection goes on, insists Leonid Chernovetsky. Adviser to previous President Leonid Kuchma, and parliamentarian of the People's Power coalition, he leads the Christian Liberal Party, and was one of the presidential hopefuls in the latest election. Chernovetsky got through the initial round with a token 0.47 per cent of votes, and was backing Victor Yuschenko in the drama-laden runoff.

"Twenty countries recognize lie detector tests as legally valid. I bought the gadget on US State Department permission. Now, I am calling the new administration to get through checks," said the community activist. He hopes the tests will throw light on certain details of the sensational crime.

Meanwhile, as he alleges, the present regime is blatantly interfering in detection. "Don't make a political show out of the Gongadze affair! The rulers must see that intervention in legal proceedings may get them criminally liable," warned Mr. Chernovetsky.

Ukraine is to regain all footages Major Melnichenko was making in President Kuchma's office. The Gongadze affair and certain other crimes will not see proper detection till the footages are recovered, he emphatically added.

Chernovetsky describes Melnichenko as "a mere functionary who was making recordings in the President's office for two years and a half, with President Kuchma in the know. One day, the major made recordings at his own disposal, with no presidential authorization."

President Yuschenko is to receive all footages, without slightest exception, from Major Melnichenko's own hands, and the recordings are to add to the Gongadze murder file.

"The present regime has started with catch-phrases-just what the previous regime was starting with, in its time. Be that as it may, declarations and catch-phrases are only words not deeds," stressed Chernovetsky.
