Mr. Yanukovich announced this to journalists on Friday when he was laying wreaths to the monument to the Unknown Soldier in Kiev.
"Almost all the regional branches of the party have made this decision," he stressed.
According to Mr. Yanukovich, the position of the party will depend on the new leadership. "We should not claim that we are against everything. The opposition depends on new authorities," the ex-premier said.
"It is really hard to talk about it," Viktor Yanukovich said in reply to journalists' question about the death of former Interior Minister Yuri Kravchenko.
"I am sorry he is dead. Mr. Kravchenko was a very responsible man. He had emotional problems when the media began discussing his personality," Mr. Yanukovich added.
The party leader also came out against lustration. "This process divides the country according to the principles of the 2004 elections. This may lead to a conflict in society," he noted.
A congress of party Ukraine's Regions will be held on March 5.
