TEHRAN, February 27 (RIA Novosti, Nikolai Terekhov) - Unit One construction of the Bushehr nuclear power plant is essential in Iranian-Russian civil-oriented nuclear partnership, says Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, head of a council to appraise decision-making expedience under the Islamic Republic's religious leader.

Hashemi Rafsanjani today received Alexander Rumyantsev, Russia's Federal Nuclear Energy Agency chief, on a routine visit to Iran. The host highlighted the Bushehr project as essential in bilateral partnership, and to come as historic symbol of Tehran-Moscow contacts, reports the council press service.

"We expect Russia not to come under the influence or political pressure of countries unfriendly to the Islamic Republic," he stressed. "The power plant will eventually be built and commissioned. That will be a propitious time for lasting confidence-building between Russia and Iran, and offer a basis for more extensive contacts."

Bushehr plant development prospects are very promising, just as other forms of bilateral partnership in civil-oriented nuclear industry and R&D, and power industry as a whole, Mr. Rumyantsev said, in his turn.

He hopes an agreement to return depleted nuclear fuel from Bushehr to Russia will be signed during his current visit, the Russian official said yesterday.

Alexander Rumyantsev and Gholamreza Aqazadeh, Iran's Vice-President and Atomic Energy Organization head, are visiting the Bushehr construction site today to see the works, meet in a routine conference, and make a resolution to pace up construction efforts.
