MOSCOW, February 21 (RIA Novosti) - China has Russia's wholehearted support as it is working to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity, said Alexander Alexeyev, Russia's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. The reassurance came as he was holding conference in Moscow today with Li Binzai, second in charge of the Chancellery for Taiwan Affairs under China's State Council.
Mr. Li informed his partner about efforts, now underway in China, to draft a bill against activities to split the country, Russia's Foreign Ministry PR said to Novosti.
The Russian negotiator expressed understanding for the motifs that had made China draft the bill and eventually give it legal force. As he emphasized, support for China as it seeks to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity comes as a prominent part of bilateral strategic partnership and interaction, says the ministry.
The conferees confirmed the principled Russian stance on the Taiwan issue, the Russian foreign ministry said.
