Chairman of the Moldovan Coordinating Council for Television and Radio Iona Mikhailo has sent a letter to the general director of Channel One information programs saying that the program Vremya has rudely interfered in the Moldovan election campaign by, particularly, covering the congress of the public organization Patria Moldova in Moscow on Saturday.
The coordinating council "recommends to the Directorate of Information Programs of the OAO Channel One before the end of the election campaign to refrain from airing materials which can be seen as election propaganda in favor of this or that candidate".
"An alternative to the decision can only be the ending of Channel One broadcasts in the territory of our state, which will do no good to TV-viewers in Moldova and relations between our countries", the letter reads.
The reception room of the general director of Channel One information programs told RIA Novosti that it has received the letter. "It has come and is being considered by the management", a staffer said. And supposed that official commentaries will follow later.
In recent days, the Moldovan authorities have expelled from the country two groups of Russian citizens, accusing them of violating the election legislation of the republic.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has called these actions of the Moldovan authorities "biased". "It appears that Cisinau does not welcome official monitoring", says the statement of the Russian foreign policy establishment.
