At 8:30 in the morning, a sea of red carnations, memorial candles, icons, and photos of the victims of the terrorist act on a subway train between Paveletskaya and Avtozavodskaya stations covered the space near the entrance to Avtozavodskaya subway station - the site of a mourning meeting dedicated to the first anniversary of the tragic event.
After the meeting, the participants opened a memorial plaque on the platform of Avtozavodskaya station bearing names of the victims and an inscription saying: "In eternal memory of the victims of the terrorist act in the Moscow subway on February 6, 2004." The participants kept a moment of silence in memory of the victims.
The terrorist act on the subway train heading between Paveletskaya and Avtozavodskaya stations occurred at 8:30 am on February 6, 2004. Forty-two people died and 250 people were injured as a result of the bomb explosion.
The damage to Moscow subway is estimated at about 4 million rubles (more than $140,000).
According to the Moscow prosecutor's office data, the weight of the explosive device was between 2.9 and 6.6 kilograms. The bomb was filled with shrapnel in the form of bolts and screws. "The investigation aimed at establishing identities of the perpetrators of the terrorist act is still under way," the Moscow prosecutor's office reports.
