TBILISI, February 3 (RIA Novosti) - "In the presence of the Supreme Court President and of the Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia, I determined to take upon myself the duties of supreme executive officer," President Mikhail Saakashvili said in the Holy Trinity Cathedral, Tbilisi's principal house of prayer.

The President said he had ordered government members to resume their duties and get ministries and other central offices back to the usual routine.

"I ordered all local administration heads to do their duties. I ordered the same, as Commander-in-Chief, to law-enforcement bodies and the army," the President went on.

He emphatically called the nation to retain law and order. Life must go on in its usual rhythm. That is essential, stressed Mr. Saakashvili. "Trespassers will be punished in keeping with the established procedure," he warned.

"The state goes on working even despite the tragedy that befell it. We have the situation in full control," he reassured.

The head of state thanked all who condole with Georgia in its bereavement-in particular, the heads of other states who had forwarded message of condolence on Zurab Zhvania's sudden death.

Georgia's Prime Minister was found dead in the small hours today. Forensic experts assume carbon monoxide poisoning.
