PRISON INMATES TO HAVE UNBROKEN CATERING ON NEW YEAR, X-MAS, OMBUDSMAN CALLS INTERIOR MINISTER

MOSCOW, December 30 (RIA Novosti) - Detainees and pre-trial prison inmates must have unbroken catering throughout winter celebrations, Vladimir Lukin, federal Human Rights Commissioner, called Rashid Nurgaliev, Interior Minister, as the ombudsman's press service notified Novosti.

Mr. Lukin insistently called the minister to make extra foolproof provisions for inmates' subsistence ration supplies kept up without a hitch during ten-day New Year and Christmas celebrations-a long break that threatens food supplies thwarted with public catering companies on vacation, the press service warns in a statement.

The alarm is far from groundless, what with frequent previous instances on which prison inmates had no hot meals on weekends and red-letter days, stresses the document. People on Vladimir Lukin's staff regard it as bad violation of inmates' rights.
