MOSCOW, December 16 (RIA Novosti) - The Moscow Arbitration Court confirmed the legality of back fiscal claims on the Yukos petroleum company after the company appealed against a related resolution of the Federal Tax Service interregional inspection for major taxpayers.

The verdict reduces the claim for 2002 by 1.277 billion rubles to 192.5 billion. Today's Central Bank rate is R27.91/$1.

The verdict may be appealed against within a month, our correspondent reports from courtroom.

The Federal Taxation Service decision of November 16 claimed from Yukos 193.8 billion rubles for 2002-90.3 billion back taxes, 31.5 billion fine and 72.04 billion penalty. Today's court verdict cuts the arrears by 325.6 million rubles, fine by 98.5 million, and penalty by 851.4 million.

As we reported on an earlier occasion, the Service accused Yukos of tax evasion through eight front companies based in Mordovia on the Volga and the Evenki autonomous area in Siberia's north.

99.3 billion ruble tax arrears for 2000 and 115.4 billion for 2001 were previously collected from the company by court.

Fiscal agencies intend to face Yukos with another claim, for last year, roughly at 169 billion rubles.
