TEHRAN, December 12 (RIA Novosti) - Russia highly assesses Iran's principled position on the situation in Chechnya, Russian Federation Council Speaker Sergei Mironov said addressing the Iranian Majles (parliament) on Sunday.

"Iran's support for sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Russian Federation has a positive influence on the present and future of Russian-Iranian relations. We assign priority to the fact that Iran resolutely condemns all forms of terrorism," Mr. Mironov stressed.

"We highly value the policy which Iran pursued in connection with the Chechen events as the chairman of the Islamic Conference Organization," the Federation Council speaker noted.

"The Islamic Republic has supported Russia in the last years and shared our position on key global and international issues such as the Tajik, Afghan and Iraqi settlement and the consolidation of the UN international role," he stressed.

"Iran was the first to back Russian President Vladimir Putin's initiative to expand Russia's relations with the Islamic Conference Organization," Sergei Mironov said.

According to him, this creates a good foundation for bolstering Russian-Iranian partnership.
