NEW DELHI, December 4 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has met with Indian opposition leader Lal Krishna Advani.

Greeting one of the most famous and influential Indian politicians, the head of state said he had often met with Mr. Advani when the latter was the vice premier and interior minister in the former Indian government.

"I have already underscored during the current visit that your government took much effort to raise Russian-Indian relations to a new qualitative level," Vladimir Putin noted.

"The high cooperation level is a great Russian-Indian achievement. Today we need to make further progress," the Russian President said.

Lal Krishna Advani said he agreed with this position.

Warm friendly relations between our nations and countries are unique, indeed, he stressed.

Governments and political systems change each other but our friendship remains and strengthens, the Indian politician added.
