MOSCOW, October 28 (RIA Novosti) - Launch of the Soyuz-2 carrier rocket has been put off for technical reasons, said the press service of the Russian Space Troops.

"Launch of the Soyuz-2 has been delayed due to remarks regarding the carrier rocket. They will just have more time to recheck what has been discovered during the pre-launch preparations", the press service said.

There is "nothing extraordinary" in moving the launch to a later date. The particular date has not been specified.

Earlier, Russia Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov said that, in case of successful testing, Soyuz-2 would be in use in Russia and abroad, including in joint projects with France on the Kourou space centre in French Guiana.

The minister also said that Soyuz-2 is of 100-percent Russian make and can be used in the interest of Russia and for commercial ends.

The Soyuz-2 carrier rocket is designed to orbit unmanned, manned and cargo spacecraft and ships.

It was created by the Progress Central Special Design Office, based in Samara (Volga area).
