PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, October 24 (RIA Novosti's Oksana Guseva) - The Kamchatka volcano Shiveluch is shooting ash 1.5 miles high and causes an earthquake, the Kamchatka Team for Seismic Research told RIA Novosti.

Space photos from the Alaska Volcano Observatory show an ash cloud extending to 40 miles toward southeast. The seismic stations deployed in the area have spotted earthquakes with GZ at a depth of three miles. They say the volcano shivers from time to time.

A video recording is hard to obtain because the volcano is remote, but experts are sure rock avalanches are rolling downhill.

Shiveluch (3,283 meters high), the northernmost active volcano of Kamchatka, woke up this January after a long period of silence.

Currently the volcano is not dangerous for the local residents, but its ash clouds are a challenge for air traffic. They hinder navigation and might cause engine malfunction in flight as ash gets into the turbines through air intakes.
