MOSCOW, October 12 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov and chairman of the Executive Committee - executive secretary of the CIS Vladimir Rushailo discussed the issues of strengthening the military component of the CIS countries cooperation on Tuesday, RIA Novosti was told in the CIS Executive Committee's press service.

During the discussion Mr. Rushailo pointed out that "the work on strengthening the military component of cooperation along with economic integration is to become a bonding basis for further development of the CIS".

"Perhaps it is worthwhile to think about draft concept of military and military technical cooperation of the CIS member-states, development of the military bases network, gradual transfer from rapid response forces to coalition forces and groupings", said the chairman of the CIS Executive Committee.

At the same time, he emphasized that a significant role in implementing these programs should belong to the CIS Military Cooperation Coordination Staff.

According to Mr. Rushailo, taking into account the evolving situation and new challenges and threats "it is necessary to find most optimal forms of military organization within the framework of the CIS, which, on one hand, will be acceptable for the political leadership of the CIS member-states, and on the other hand, will ensure solution of the tasks of armed coalition defense on the post-Soviet space".
