KABUL, October 6 (RIA Novosti) - Russia donated to the Afghan Armed Forces 228 transport vehicles in Kabul today as humanitarian aid to the emergent army. These are KAMAZ and GAZ lorries, UAZ cross-country vehicles, and mobile automobile maintenance stations.

The ceremony in the Afghan capital gathered VIPs-Zamir Kabulov, Russian Ambassador to Afghanistan, other countries' military attaches, and General Jukhar, Afghanistan's Deputy Defence Minister in charge of armaments and technology.

Russia is for today one of the most generous donors to the new Afghan army. Its aid exceeded US$110 million within the preceding two years and a half, Mr. Kabulov said to Novosti.

Russia does not presently export arms to Afghanistan. It has limited military-technological aid to aircraft and automobile maintenance, and military expert training, pointed out the ambassador.

Russia intends to build up its economic contacts with Afghanistan, which offers a vast field of business activities and capital investment, added the diplomat.

"I count on the Russian business community to become more active in the Afghan market, with its many lucrative chances for investment and reasonable profits. Economic partnership certainly promises considerable gains to both countries," he said.
