MOSCOW, September 11 (RIA Novosti) - Pakistani Foreign Minister Khoursheed Kasouri plans to discuss a number of large-scale economic projects with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, at a forthcoming meeting in New York City. Kasouri has announced the intention in a RIA interview Saturday.

He is to meet with Lavrov during the UN General Assembly's session later this month.

"I hope to discuss with Lavrov the progress made since our recent meeting in Moscow in June 2004," Kasouri said. According to the Pakistani minister, all aspects of bilateral relations will be discussed, with economic cooperation prominent on the agenda.

Kasouri said Russia and Pakistan had a number of large-scale projects on hand to bolster further development of economic cooperation, primarily with regard to expansion of Russian machinery exports. Among other projects, Kasouri mentioned one that envisages the assembly of Kamaz trucks in Pakistan. An agreement to the effect has already been signed, and the manufacturing is to be launched in a year or two from now.

According to Kasouri, there are good prospects for bilateral cooperation in the gas sector, as well. The Russian gas giant Gazprom has already expressed interest in a project providing for the construction of a gas pipeline to link Iran, Pakistan and India. "We also have good prospects for cooperating in sectors such as mechanical engineering, energy, and space technologies," the Pakistani Foreign minister said.
