"These atrocities, including the attack on civil airliners, the explosion of a suicide close to a metro station in Moscow, the brutal hostage-taking and the massacre of innocent schoolchildren and other civilians in Beslan underline the barbarous and bloodthirsty nature of terrorist challenge facing us today," said the Russia-NATO Council statement. The document was adopted following the Council's emergency ambassador session convened in connection with the act of terrorism in North Ossetia.
'These acts are a challenge to our common security, to our common democratic values and to basic human rights and freedoms," says the statement.
No aim can justify these acts, continues the statement.
The states participating in the Council are at one in their utter rejection of terrorism in all its manifestations and in their determination to see those responsible for these villainous acts being tried in court," says the statement.
"The threat of terrorism calls for instant and wide mobilisation of all the nations in the drive against this evil," goes on the document. It also shows that the acts of terrorism in Russia have revealed that terrorism has neither borders, nor religion, nor moral principles. "Our common target is to win the battle against terrorism."
The Council has called for the unity of the world community's action in resistance to terrorism.
The statement also points out that the member-states of the Council retain their resolve to intensify joint action against the common threat to security and well-being of our peoples, including an effort to work out a plan of practical measures to uproot this evil."
