JAPANESE FOREIGN MINISTER ON PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION IN CHECHNYA

MOSCOW, August 30 (RIA Novosti) - The presidential election in Chechnya is very important in the light of efforts made by the Russian government for political stabilisation there.

This is said in the message sent on Monday by Japanese Foreign Minister Ioriko Kawaguti to her Russian analogue Sergei Lavrov in connection with the presidential election held in the Chechen republic on August 29.

The message reads, in particular: "The presidential election in the Chechen Republic on August 29 of this year was held without significant incidents and, on the whole, quietly".

The Japanese foreign minister expressed the hope that "the peaceful holding of the presidential election in the Chechen Republic will promote political settlement" there.
