RUSSIAN SPORTS OFFICIALS TO INVESTIGATE ALL DOPING CASES

MOSCOW, August 28 (RIA Novosti) - After the Olympic Games in Athens Russian sports officials will investigate all doping cases of Russian athletes, head of the federal agency for physical culture, sports and tourism Vyacheslav Fetisov said at a televised conference on Wednesday.

"Our anti-doping laboratory is being informed about the developments in the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). We shall gather all the interested persons in Moscow and carry out an investigation," Mr. Fetisov noted.

Three Russian athletes, weightlifter Albina Khomich, shot-putter Irina Korzhanenko and runner Anton Galkin were tested positive for doping. The steroid stanozolol was found on Korzhanenko and Galkin.

Moreover, the case of Alexei Nemov who got biased low grades in exercises on a horizontal bar will be examined, Vyacheslav Fetisov said. We should consider whether the appeal was made in time and if it is possible to influence the situation, he added.

Speaking about Alexei Nemov, Mr. Fetisov said that he is a real sportsman. The head of the federal agency for physical culture, sports and tourism also thanked other outstanding Russian athletes, Alexander Popov, Svetlana Khorkina and Alexander Moskalenko. "They should give an example to young people. We should encourage them and talk about them," he stressed.
