MOSCOW, August 25 (RIA Novosti) - Gazprom and the Chinese national petroleum corporation (CNPC) will embark Thursday on talks concerning strategic cooperation, Industry and Power Engineering Minister Viktor Khristenko said at the sixth Russian-Chinese energy session.

Dealing with contacts in the gas industry, the minister urged the necessity of the complex development of resources in Siberia and the Far East, says the ministry's press-release.

"In the oil sphere, priority will be given to the pipe-laying project," said the minister, adding that this will not undermine the current deals in the field.

The sides shared the opinion that oil shipments to China by rail should be built up and a relevant agreement signed.

As to electric power stations, the sides agreed on developing frontier cooperation, including the export of Russian electricity to China.

In the sphere of power plant engineering, Russia and China want to encourage the participation of Russian companies in tenders crowned with production cooperation. "The Russian bankers who took part in the talks showed interest in crediting transactions in this sphere," noted Khristenko.
