VLADIVOSTOK, August 21 (RIA Novosti) - The departure of warships of the Russian Pacific Fleet from Vladivostok to Japan has been postponed from August 21 but to August 25, the Fleet's press center told RIA Novosti.

The delay is due to the Japanese offer of a shorter and more convenient route for the friendly visit to Kure port (Japan).

Earlier, the Marshal Shaposhnikov big antisubmarine ship, the BDK-11 big landing ship and a high-speed guided missile boat were supposed to go to Japan via neutral waters. The proposed route to Kure passes along the Japanese coast, making it twice shorter.

"The command of the Pacific fleet views the change in the route as a fact of greater trust and evidence of strengthening cooperation between the navies of the two countries", the press center said.

The visit's framework (from August 30 to September 3) remains unchanged.

The visit, flying the flag of Rear-Admiral Sergei Avramenko, commander of the Maritime flotilla of the Pacific fleet, seeks promotion of bilateral relations and trust between the Russian and Japanese navies.

In Japan Russian sailors will meet their fellow-navy men and get a acquainted with the culture of the Country of the Rising Sun, noted the press center.

The first expedition of Russian Pacific warships visited Japan in July 265 years ago. Ten years ago the first Russian-Japanese exercises to help ships in distress was held in the Bay of Peter the Great near Vladivostok.
