The 'king' accompanied by his 'generals', 'guards' and 'courtiers' was carried in his palanquin along Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk's central streets to the Yuri Gagarin central park of culture and recreation, which hosts the main celebrations.
Locals and guests of the Sakhalin region taking part in the event enjoyed the procession of Koreans in national dresses.
Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk always hosts special celebrations of the Day of Korea's Liberation. In August 1945 the Soviet troops liberated Sakhalin's south from Japanese invaders who kept thousands of Koreans as forced laborers on the island.
About 40,000 Koreans live in the Sakhalin region today.
The celebrations of the Day of Korea's Liberation coincided with the opening of daily broadcasting of the Korean TV in the region.
